Sen. Blackburn says Schumer is trying to force a shutdown to help him 'hang on to the U.S. Senate'

Senator Marsha Blackburn, a Republican from Tennessee, asserted on Sunday that she believes Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat from New York, is attempting to instigate a government shutdown in order to enhance his chances of retaining his Senate seat.

She shared these views with guest host Jason Chaffetz, who was standing in for Maria Bartiromo on the "Sunday Mornings Future" program on Fox News.

Chaffetz initiated the discussion by noting that Schumer had declared he would lay blame on House Republicans if there's a government shutdown due to their failure to pass spending legislation by the end of September.

Blackburn, a member of both the Senate Finance and Senate Judiciary committees, expressed that the Democrats are inclined towards a government shutdown because it would impede the ongoing House investigations into alleged Biden family corruption and the misuse of government for political purposes. She pointed out that Representatives James Comer, Jim Jordan, and Jason Smith are actively working to uncover the precise connection between Joe Biden and Biden Incorporated.

The upcoming year holds presidential and congressional elections, and Republicans are aiming to maintain their majority in the House and regain the majority in the Senate.

"But what we do know is this: Senate Republicans and House Republicans are actively working to pass these spending bills because it's a way to diminish the White House's authority," Blackburn emphasized. "This is our strategy to tackle inflation."
